Puppy Potty Training Made Simpler

There are heaps of tribulations that are put into rearing a pet, one of the most important is potty training the animal. Getting them to go in the right place, at specific times can often be quite challenging. This potty training guide will serve as a starting point for your efforts.

The preferred way to potty train your dog is through the use of positive reinforcement. This can often take several weeks or months, so starting immediately is recommended. Let's take a look at how reinforcement is used to potty train your four legged friend.

First, start off by showing the dog where the right place to go is. After your puppy has been fed, wait at least 2 hours and then take him to the spot in the yard where you want him to go to the bathroom. Feel free to remain in the area, but give them their space.

If the dog goes int he right location, or goes in the yard in general, you must reward him with food or high praise. If the pet fails to go, then be sure to escort him or her outside each hour in an attempt to reinforce the desired action.

If the dog happens to go to the bathroom inside the house, be sure to scold the dog or otherwise let him know this is not the right action. Be patient, wait another hour or two, and then let him outside again.

If the animal barks and yelps to get inside, do not do so right away. Make sure he knows you are in charge and that this is where he should be doing his buisiness.

Odds are, any attempt to potty train an animal will yield a few mistakes before success is achieved. If your pet is constantly having accidents after a month or two of consistent reinforcement, there could be something else wrong. At this point it is wise to take your dog to the vet.
